MECHANISM OF BOULDER TRANSPORT DURING EXTREME WAVE EVENTS ALONG THE EASTERN FLANK OF THE ARABIAN SEA

The study presents hydrodynamic mechanism of boulder transportation along the rocky coastal margins with a case from eastern flank Arabian Sea. Limestone blocks ranging in size small (1.3, 0.95, 0.35) m to large (2.9, 1.68, 0.5)m scattered over platform were considered for approximation wave energy. boulders prominent imbrications indicative flow direction used assess minimum velocity initiate transport during extreme events. irregular /polyhedral boulders, previously part sub-aerially exposed jointed limestone strata, detached and transported under impact high energy waves. We calculated height dynamic waves required onshore using dimensions i.e., length (a-axis), width (b-axis), (c-axis). By applying equations, it is deduced that average such must be ≥7.28m/s corresponding heights ≥5.51m ≥1.38m storm tsunami events respectively. Based on largest clast recorded, ≈7m ≈2m are capable transporting ≈2.5m3 tabular margins. Since this region has documented records very-severe cyclonic storms affecting landscape addition widespread 1945 tsunami, we suggest deposition had received inputs as well last few decades.
